Dr. Oz is always researching new ways for us to lose weight, get rid of the belly fat and get healthy.
Here are some suggestions that he has made during some of his shows:
Dr Oz Tips for Quick Weight Loss
- Put hot pepper jelly or Sriracha sauce on your food because it ignites your metabolism.
- Consume catechins (like those found in green tea) and take 3,400mg of CLA (conjugated linoleic acids) a day.
- Take L-Arginine, which helps burn fat and build muscle.
- Sprinkle acacia powder on your food. "This is like a diet pill without chemicals," said Dr. Oz. "It's something you can put on everything you eat. Acacia powder has a ton of fiber. It has no taste. It fills you up so you're not hungry."
- Snack on sauerkraut, kimchi, or low-sodium pickles. Feed your body the right bacteria and they'll detox you.
- Reduce cortisol. When you feel stress, your body releases the stress hormone cortisol. It makes you store calories in your body, especially your belly. Red wine can help reduce cortisol.
- Eat wet foods, which are foods with a high water volume (70% or more) and have lots of fiber (at least five grams per serving).
- Avoid diet sodas (or any carbonated beverages). The carbonation and artificial sweeteners ruin your metabolism, boost your appetite and make you fat.
- Healthy monounsaturated fats (like those in olive oil, nuts, seeds and avocados), are actually really effective at beating belly bloat.
This list is the "hot-hormone" diet that he says will melt body fat:
- Whey protein isolate. It reduces insulin and appetite.
- Pomegranate. This antioxidant-rich, anti-inflammatory fruit helps lowers estrogen (which also reduces breast-cancer risk).
- Buckwheat. Despite its name, buckwheat is not a wheat; it's a plant that's a rich source of protein and fiber.
- Dry red wine. This is high in flavinoids, and having it after a meal aids digestion and controls appetite.
- Roasted soy nuts. It helps combat age-related weight gain by increasing metabolism.
- Holy basil. This supplement is known to fight belly-fat storage. Try one capsule twice a day.
- Indole-3 carbinol. This supplement will help your liver break down the bad estrogen and convert it into the good kind. Take 200 mg twice a day.
- CLA (conjugated linoleic acid). This fatty acid supports lean muscle mass and increases metabolism. Dr. Oz suggests taking 1,500 mg twice a day for three months to see reduced back fat.
- Black soybeans. This legume is a weight-loss powerhouse that torches fat and curbs appetite.
More Tips from Dr. Oz
Another effective way to burn body fat (or at least stall fat storage) is to never eat carbs alone. Instead, you should always try to consume twice as much protein and fat as carbs in a meal. Doing this slows the release of sugar into the bloodstream, and that limits insulin release, resulting in less weight gain from that meal.
This trick works even when you're snacking on something sugary and unhealthy like a piece of chocolate cake. Eating that with a dollop of cottage cheese (which has both protein and fat) will ensure the high-carb snack won't get immediately stored as body fat, said Dr. Oz.
Dr. Oz had two female guests on his show who said they each lost over 30 pounds simply by adding probiotics to their diets. Both women ate Greek yogurt for breakfast and lost weight effortlessly. In addition to yogurt, probiotics are also found in sauerkraut, kimchi, miso soup, milk, and dark chocolate.
Dr. Oz said eating foods high in omega-7 fatty acids such as anchovies and macadamia nuts has been shown to reduce belly fat and lower your risk of diabetes
Diet For Your Brain
Dr. Oz also had Dr. Perlmutter on his show and he said a high-carb diet causes inflammation, which has a catastrophic effect on brain cells, as well as the entire body.
Dr. Oz agreed that consuming plenty of healthy fats (such as olive oil, avocado, nuts and salmon) and limiting processed carbs can prevent and repair neurological damage.
Dr. Perlmutter recommends a low-carb diet — limiting carbs to no more than 80 grams a day — and eating lots of dietary fats, such as extra-virgin olive oil, avocado, grass-fed butter, wild fish, grass-fed beef, coconut oil, nuts. "The fate of your brain is not in your genes; it's in the food you eat," he said.
